about me

Andrew Kos – Photographer

Yes that’s me in the above photo! I know it’s not a flattering picture especially with my receding hair but I did publish it to show you me in action on a wedding. “Okay look here and think about something you like doing” invariably gets a natural smile from most people. This is just one of my crazy lines I use to “break the ice”. Friends and clients tell me I have a relaxed and friendly manner. Combine this with over 20 years experience in photography and I create magical images that capture the real person.

My childhood was filled with opportunites to take photos using the old film camera, namely a pentax slr. I would spend hours at the age of eight, sifting through piles of family photos, admiring the memories. Later on in university I studied modules in photography and the black and white darkroom. What a thrill it was to manually develop your film by hand, gently rocking the developer tray back and forth, until in the red light, an image slowy appeared. And if it was a good one you would experience a rush of excitement and what made it more special is that fact it was hand made.

My first wedding to photograph occured in the early 1990′s and it was from word-of-mouth that generated further interest. And a few years later the Andrew Kos Photography business was born with a main focus on weddings and family portraiture. I have also been commissioned to photograph sporting events for the Townsville Rugby League, retail, industrial, school and family reunions, family portaits and some modelling shoots.

I look forward to the future in photography. The availability of software to manipulate images is good if you know when, how much and how to use it. I tend not to over “photoshop” my images because I do not really like the “plastic” or artifical look that you see on the front of fashion magazines for example. However, I do believe that obvious blemishes and other unwanted features can be changed or deleted. Just not to the extent where the image becomes “unbelievable”. (Let’s be honest who really wants a big zit on their nose on display for the whole world to see hehe) Hardware is improving in leaps and bounds. I only use the best canon professional equipment and ensure I have at least two backups of everything.

I really look forward to photographing your special event.

Take care and best wishes

Andrew
